Two former French air force A340’s wearing Mali registrations spotted flying towards Iran

In the night of May 24 2023 two Airbus A340-200 aircraft were spotted on Flightradar24 flying closely together heading towards Iran. The aircraft were registered in Mali wearing registration TZ-DTA (ICAO hex 05C081) and TZ-DTC (ICAO hex 05C086)

The aircraft departed Kertajati International Airport in Indonesia, were spotted flying near the westcoast on India on a northeasterly heading towards Iran.

These two flights are very similar to four A340s which flew at the same time from South Africa to Iran.

The aircraft are former French air force A340’s which were stored at Kertajati International Airport (KJT) since April and May 2022.

These were registered F-HFDD and F-HLMG and both purchased by French company LMO Aero. The owner of this company is Ludovic Martinho. F-HFDD arrived at KJT at April 10 2022. F-HLMG arrived at May 19 2022 from Chateauroux in France.

According to the French aviation register F-HFDD was deleted from the register at 04/11/2022. F-HLMG was deregistered at May 22, 2022

This video shows the arrival of F-HLMG at KJT. Both aircraft wear the basic livery of the French air force but without the titles. A video made in August 2022 show the two aircraft but now completely white. Quite soon after the arrival on the second A340 in May 2022 both were painted white.

Th aircraft can be seen here parked at Kertajati International Airport.

It is extremely unlikey a Mali based airline will operate two old Airbus A340 aircraft. The country has no demand for such capacity or long haul flights. It is very likely these two aircraft landed at Tehran airport in Iran. Iranian airlines still operated the Airbus A340 and perform maintenance on the Conviasa A340. The ferry of these two aircraft could be to have spare parts available in Iran.

The two flights were first noted by Twitter user @Prova_61 . Flighttracker @Gerjon_ then sent a couple of Tweets about these flights.
